New Year Blog: A Fresh Start Filled with Compassion

As we step into 2025, the new year brings with it a sense of hope, renewal, and possibility. It’s a chance to reflect on the past year—to celebrate our accomplishments, learn from our challenges, and set intentions for the road ahead. For me, it’s also a time to recommit to the causes that bring meaning to my life. This includes the joy of animal rescue. Let’s make it a New Year filled with compassion.

Reflecting on 2024

The past year was filled with stories of transformation and love. From sharing the incredible tales in Promises Kept to connecting with readers who have their own rescue experiences, I’m reminded of the profound impact we can make when we open our hearts to animals in need. Each rescued pet represents a promise fulfilled—to give them a better life and, in turn, receive unconditional love and gratitude. Moving forward with a New Year filled with compassion is essential.

Setting Intentions for 2025

This year, let’s make compassion our resolution. Whether it’s for ourselves, others, or the animals who rely on our kindness, small actions can create ripples of positive change. Here are a few ideas to consider as you plan your year:

  • Adopt or Foster: If you’ve been thinking about bringing a furry friend into your life, now is the perfect time to take the leap. Fostering is another way to make a difference without a long-term commitment.
  • Support Shelters: Volunteering your time or donating supplies can go a long way in helping shelters care for animals.
  • Spread Awareness: Share stories from Promises Kept or your own rescue experiences to inspire others to take action. A New Year filled with compassion can start with sharing these tales.
  • Practice Self-Compassion: Remember, kindness starts with you. Take time to nurture your own well-being so you can show up fully for the causes and people you care about. My new book will be about how I have learned to nurture my own well-being and find joy in each day coming from an abusive childhood.

A Year of Possibilities

Imagine what 2025 could hold if we all resolved to bring a little more kindness into the world. For every animal we rescue, for every life we touch, we move closer to creating a community built on love and understanding. Let’s make this a year to honor promises kept and create new beginnings. A New Year filled with compassion will bring incredible opportunities.

About The Author

Dr. Susie

I reside in Northeast Ohio after traveling from coast to coast and living in both rural and metropolitan areas from Los Angeles to New York and of course the Midwest. I am an author and third generation artist and have been painting since the early 1960s. I have always cared deeply about animals, both domestic and wild, and the preservation of endangered species, has always been a concern as well. Most recently, I was involved in animal rescue work, finding homes for over 11,000 dogs and cats over the previous 12 years. It's only natural then, that I am drawn to animals and nature for my art subjects. I have also explored the metaphysical including creative imagination, Reiki, crystal healing, tai chi, feng shui and yoga and feel they add depth to my art as well. By creating an emotional connection for the viewer I hope my artwork will create concern and compassion for our natural world and its wild inhabitants, and help stimulate conservation efforts. My love of historic buildings and their conservation led me to doing the house portraits and my architectural works
