New Ohio Gallery & Portrait

This week we missed the big snow in my area of Ohio and really haven’t had much snow yet this winter. My granddaughters are disappointed as they ski and the weather has not been good for their fun in the snow time. So I decided it was time to share my winter ice painting and then because winter will probably bring plenty of snow in February I added my summer paintings of the Cleveland Sunset and the marshlands of Peninsula in Cuyahoga Valley National Park.

Winter Ice

Winter Ice is a digital painting of my front yard when I lived in the country. I loved watching the deer and birds play in the snow during the very snowy winters.

Cleveland at Sunset

The Sunset in Cleveland Painting was from a photograph taken  close to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The sunsets along the lake are always awesome.

The last painting this week is a mixed media painting   of the marshland near the railroad station in Peninsula. The Cuyahoga Valley National Park is one of my favorite areas to paint and seems worlds away from the urban areas of Cleveland and Akron. I love watching the herons as they nest in the spring and the train is always a nostalgic trip to the past.  The park is a refuge for native plants and wildlife, and provides routes of discovery for everyone. Several years ago I hiked the Brandywine Gorge Trail to Brandywine Falls.

Peninsula Blue Marsh

Brandywine Falls is a 65-foot waterfall that is the centerpiece of the falls area.  I will share these paintings in the weeks to come.  The winding Cuyahoga River gives way to deep forests, rolling hills, and open farmlands. Brandywine Falls

Grandbabies Collage Portrait

Last week I said I would start a series on a portrait collage of friends and theiGrandbabiesr new grandbabies. This has been a lot of fun and I have sketched in the two babies as newborns  with their grandparents and their grandson with a watercolor background.  Next week I will set up the right side with their granddaughter and then start painting it in. I am not sure where it is going but I am having fun on the journey. At this time the sketches are just a rough approximation of the subjects. Safe journeys, I’ll see you next week.

About The Author

Dr. Susie

I reside in Northeast Ohio after traveling from coast to coast and living in both rural and metropolitan areas from Los Angeles to New York and of course the Midwest. I am an author and third generation artist and have been painting since the early 1960s. I have always cared deeply about animals, both domestic and wild, and the preservation of endangered species, has always been a concern as well. Most recently, I was involved in animal rescue work, finding homes for over 11,000 dogs and cats over the previous 12 years. It's only natural then, that I am drawn to animals and nature for my art subjects. I have also explored the metaphysical including creative imagination, Reiki, crystal healing, tai chi, feng shui and yoga and feel they add depth to my art as well. By creating an emotional connection for the viewer I hope my artwork will create concern and compassion for our natural world and its wild inhabitants, and help stimulate conservation efforts. My love of historic buildings and their conservation led me to doing the house portraits and my architectural works
