My New Book, “Promises Kept”

The image shows the front and back covers of the book Promises Kept by Dr. Susie Myers. The front cover features a collage of dog portraits, each with distinct colors and expressions, creating a heartwarming and personal visual. The title, Promises Kept, is written in a script-like font above the dog images. On the back cover, there is a summary of the book surrounded by artistic brushstroke designs. Small photos of dogs appear near the text, along with a circular image of the author, Dr. Susie Myers, toward the bottom left, wearing a bright-colored shirt.

My new book, “Promises Kept,” went live July 29, 2024 on Amazon in Hardcover, Paperback and Kindle.  I am beyond excited and happy with this huge accomplishment at 81 years old.  The inspiration behind my book was the 12 years of pet rescue 24/7 that I lived. I have wanted to share my story for years and finally got my book finished.

Part of the inspiration those years were the tears for the dogs and cats we found, many of them in terrible shape and the joy was watching them get their trust and happiness back and placing them with loving families or keeping them ourselves.

This book is a tribute to the furry friends who have shaped my life and the countless others I’ve helped along the way. Through my experiences, I’ve not only found solace and joy in the company of animals but also dedicated myself to ensuring that others experience the same love and companionship that ChiChi brought to me. This book is about the dogs and cats who have entered my life and the promises kept to 11,000 friends whom I helped save and place in loving homes. Today, I can’t imagine being without a dog or cat in my life. This journey is a testament to the transformative power of love and the incredible bond between humans and animals.

Lessons learned are that even if you don’t think you have enough time, the right place, or whatever else your excuse might be, the dogs and cats don’t care. All they need is a place to stay, food, and love. Is it better to have an imperfect life but live, or not to live at all? Animals are smarter than we think. As part of our dog pack, I watched them all communicate, sometimes soundlessly. I watched them celebrate and mourn and show their feelings just like we do. Just because we can’t speak dog or cat or understand them isn’t a reason to discount their intelligence or feelings. It is always the right time to help others, even our four-footed friends.

About The Author

Dr. Susie

I reside in Northeast Ohio after traveling from coast to coast and living in both rural and metropolitan areas from Los Angeles to New York and of course the Midwest. I am an author and third generation artist and have been painting since the early 1960s. I have always cared deeply about animals, both domestic and wild, and the preservation of endangered species, has always been a concern as well. Most recently, I was involved in animal rescue work, finding homes for over 11,000 dogs and cats over the previous 12 years. It's only natural then, that I am drawn to animals and nature for my art subjects. I have also explored the metaphysical including creative imagination, Reiki, crystal healing, tai chi, feng shui and yoga and feel they add depth to my art as well. By creating an emotional connection for the viewer I hope my artwork will create concern and compassion for our natural world and its wild inhabitants, and help stimulate conservation efforts. My love of historic buildings and their conservation led me to doing the house portraits and my architectural works
