Sometimes photography and art is just to be shared because you have had such a fun time and you want to share it with the world! This last week was Vegas! Baby! and I had a fantastic time. I went for the Arbonne GTC 2016 Conference as an independent consultant. My favorite places were the Bellagio, The Venetian, and France.  If you have been to Vegas, what are your favorite places?

Giant Bird or A Duck!

While there my granddaughter, who was puppy-sitting and taking care of the house sent a picture of “bird” eggs.  They looked like they were from a giant bird and I couldn’t figure out what kind of bird laid eggs that size on the ground. It was a duck of course! She put chicken wire around the garden area so the dogs couldn’t get the eggs. She hadn’t seen the mother duck back again but the neighbors had seen her  in their backyard.

Not knowing anything about Mallards, I looked them up and found out the the female duck finds a place away from the source of water and lays an egg a day until there are 8-12 eggs. She goes back to the male duck everyday after laying the egg. When she has at least 8 eggs she then sits on the nest and incubates the eggs. I have been trying to decide how to get water to the babies when they hatch and how I will keep the dogs away if they can get out of the fence. But today, when I decided to sneak a look at the eggs and see how many had been laid, I got a feisty reminder that the backyard is no longer mine and to stay away from the nest. She watched me until I finally went inside and closed the door. It may be a long spring and summer, but I am looking forward to taking pictures of the ducklings if she lets me out of the back door. So spring must be here! Have you had any interesting experiences with ducks nesting in your yard? If you have any suggestions I sure could use them.

Spring?

The week before I went to Vegas we had a snowstorm after springlike weather. My cherry tree had blossoms just ready to bloom and I figured they  were lost. But when we got back from Vegas my beautiful tree had blossomed and it is the prettiest season ever.

About The Author

Dr. Susie

I reside in Northeast Ohio after traveling from coast to coast and living in both rural and metropolitan areas from Los Angeles to New York and of course the Midwest. I am an author and third generation artist and have been painting since the early 1960s. I have always cared deeply about animals, both domestic and wild, and the preservation of endangered species, has always been a concern as well. Most recently, I was involved in animal rescue work, finding homes for over 11,000 dogs and cats over the previous 12 years. It's only natural then, that I am drawn to animals and nature for my art subjects. I have also explored the metaphysical including creative imagination, Reiki, crystal healing, tai chi, feng shui and yoga and feel they add depth to my art as well. By creating an emotional connection for the viewer I hope my artwork will create concern and compassion for our natural world and its wild inhabitants, and help stimulate conservation efforts. My love of historic buildings and their conservation led me to doing the house portraits and my architectural works
