Miniature Donkeys

Miniature Donkeys

Several years ago I did a photo shoot at Sunwoods miniature horse and miniature donkey farm. It was interesting Miniature_Donkey_Family-3_001that the miniature horses ignored me BigEars-2but when I went to take pictures of the miniature donkey babies, the parents would both show up quite quickly and I had to take the pictures quickly before being shoved away or before one of the parents stepped in front of the camera. They were very protective and would check out their baby after I took the picture. The original photos are highlighted in my Cafepress store. These paintings are in dry brush watercolor and are my first attempt at deciding what I want to do with them. I do like the soft look of the paintings in general but will need to do finishing touches. I am still playing with them :).

Barefoot Beach

Early Morning Looking for Shells-1_007I have also been playing with some of the photos I took while I was in Naples Florida. I loved the walk on Barefoot Beach and hunting for shells. This is a preliminary watercolor dry brush sketch of my visit. I am still debating on whether to just make it a landscape or keep it as is with the lovely couple looking for shells.

Grandbabies Painting Draft

I have now painted the background colors and have given some of the figures more detail. I started with square chalk and went to went to medium bristle oils, which is a favorite. Each image will still need more painting and will need finishing touches. I have changed my mind on the background and will add that last with Troop.

Let me know what you think of my paintings. Take time to enjoy the beauty around you. You can always find one thing of beauty in each day if you look.  Let your creativity flow. Let me know what you think about the paintings and what you like to see. Safe journeys, I’ll see you next week.

About The Author

Dr. Susie

I reside in Northeast Ohio after traveling from coast to coast and living in both rural and metropolitan areas from Los Angeles to New York and of course the Midwest. I am an author and third generation artist and have been painting since the early 1960s. I have always cared deeply about animals, both domestic and wild, and the preservation of endangered species, has always been a concern as well. Most recently, I was involved in animal rescue work, finding homes for over 11,000 dogs and cats over the previous 12 years. It's only natural then, that I am drawn to animals and nature for my art subjects. I have also explored the metaphysical including creative imagination, Reiki, crystal healing, tai chi, feng shui and yoga and feel they add depth to my art as well. By creating an emotional connection for the viewer I hope my artwork will create concern and compassion for our natural world and its wild inhabitants, and help stimulate conservation efforts. My love of historic buildings and their conservation led me to doing the house portraits and my architectural works
